As the flood waters started to recede and damage was accessed to start restoring services and equipment took longer to dry out in some areas than others, SMU knew help was just a phone call away when we were ready. As the regional coordinator for mutual aid to help communities in need after disasters, we have coordinated and sent crews and equipment out to help others recover from natural disasters many times – both nearby and far away. When the Spencer Flood of 2024 hit, it was our turn for assistance.
We were grateful for staff and equipment from Forest City, Milford, Alta, Alton, Sioux Center, Sibley, Sanborn, Algona, West Bend, Pocahontas, Laurens, Graettinger, and Aurelia.
