New Customer Information

Thanks for your interest in becoming an SMU customer! If you are signing up for services for the first time, you’ll need to stop into our office during normal business hours with government issued ID's. You'll be required to bring a government issued photo ID such as a driver's license and another form of government ID which can be any of the following: birth certificate, social security card or passport.

Customer Deposit Information
A deposit intended to guarantee partial payment of bills for service might be required prior to approval for service which is determined by a credit check.  A person other than the customer may pay the deposit.  The deposit will be determined by the highest month of usage from the previous 12 months, or one (1) month of estimated service for new customers.  No interest will be paid by the Utility.

Deposits will be refunded in the form of a credit to a person’s active account when there is a consecutive twelve month history of on time payments.  When an account is disconnected, the deposit will be applied to the final balance due. Any remaining credit will be transferred to other balances owed to the Utility. If there is a credit remaining after the balances due has been paid in full, a refund check will be mailed to the forwarding address provided by the customer. Any credit amounts less than $5.00 a refund will not be issued, but instead donated to a local charity of the Utilities choice.
