Accounting Supervisor

Spencer Municipal Utilities is seeking a full-time Accounting Supervisor.  The ideal candidate would be a self-motivated individual responsible for performing a variety of accounting assignments within a functional area of responsibility.  Accurately record, calculate and report transactions, including but not limited to, general ledger, payroll, investments, accounts payable, accounts receivable and inventory. Intermediate to advance experience with MS Word, MS Excel, and MS Outlook.  Provide direction for the day-to-day activities of assigned staff.

Qualified candidates should have two (2) to five (5) years of responsible experience with sales tax, payroll, bookkeeping and a background in finance, accounting or business management; Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred; or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.  Prior supervisory experience is preferred but not required.

Operations Customer Service Member

Spencer Municipal Utilities has an opening for a full-time Operations Customer Service Member.  This position is expected to operate and maintain the control center, provide 24/7 customer service support for our Electric, Water, and Communications utilities and dispatch crews.  The position will also assist with building and grounds maintenance and custodial work.

Qualified candidates must be 18 years of age and have a High School Diploma or GED; one (1) to two (2) years of Customer Service experience preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must possess a valid IA Drivers License or the ability to obtain one.  To perform this job successfully a qualified individual should have knowledge in Microsoft Office products (Office, Word, Excel) or the ability to learn.  This position works alternating shifts which will include evening & weekend hours.  The general expectation for this position is to work seven (7) consistent twelve (12) hour shifts rotating every other week (essentially working a schedule that provides every other week off).
