SMU In The Community

Spencer Municipal Utilities is proud to be a partner in Spencer's continued growth and success.  Here are some of the things we're doing on behalf of our customer-owners.

MARCH, 2005
SMU participated in the Spencer Chamber Of Commerce's annual Home and Health Show, held March 11-13 at Southpark Mall.  The SMU Home Technology Showcase featured information on some of the latest innovations in home entertainment, including digital video recorders and High Definition TV.  Local electronics dealers joined SMU at the Showcase with displays of the latest in widescreen high-definition TV technology, including LCD and plasma screens.

FEBRUARY, 2005
During the 2005 session of the Iowa Legislature, SMU remains active in defending the interests of municipal utilities.  At left, SMU's Curtis Dean joins other municipal utility representatives in the Capitol Rotunda to meet with Senate President Jack Kibbie of Emmetsburg.  Several bills being considered in the Legislature this spring could have negative consequences for municipal utilities, particularly those with telecommunications.  SMU has encouraged local lawmakers not to make any changes to current laws regarding municipal telecom utilities.

FALL, 2004
Spencer Municipal Utilities participated in a major community improvement...the Downtown Renovation project, which was completed in the Fall of 2004.  Along with the City of Spencer, SMU helped with infrastructure upgrades to the central business district.  Among the most noticeable improvements was the installation of new street lighting, which has made Spencer's historical downtown even more attractive.

SPRING, 2004
Spencer Municipal Utilities provided funding for the Spencer High School Drama Department to purchase new communications headsets four use in high school drama productions, including the Spring 2004 production of "The Crucible".  SMU was honored to receive an Honorary Thespian award from Thespian Troop #1763 for SMU's support of the SHS drama department.  Left:  Larry Untiet, SHS Drama Director.  Right:  Curtis Dean, SMU
